BOSCO YOUTH REACH OUT (BYRO): Empowering Youth; Developing Communities

The Salesians of Don Bosco came to Zambia in 1982 as a Congregation’s “Project Africa”. Today the Salesians have spread to 13 projects centres in Zambia, (Provincial House) in Lusaka, Zambia. The concentration in the past was pastoral care but in the recent years have shifted to Youth Development and Education Projects. 60% of the social and educational services are in rural areas, and 40% are in the poorest locations and densely populated settlements of small towns and capital cities. In the beginning missionaries came mostly from Poland, now there are more local Salesians and lay people involved in these projects and mission centres. While there is a great need to spread and expand, the provision of quality services and the sustainability of the projects has become one of the concerns of the Vice Province.
